Book Aid International refurbishing a library

Save the Needy Sierra Leone and Book Aid International are refurbishing unused spaces and transform them into a freshly painted and colourful school Library. Some new locally made furniture, storybooks and non-fiction books that teachers can use to enrich and support curriculum lessons.

The essence of such partnership is to promote book provision to schools and support an environment in which reading for pleasure, study and lifelong learning can flourish. Teacher librarians are trained in a range of reading activities to enhance comprehension, grow vocabulary, and improve fluency and even confidence amongst the children. Children are encouraged to read together, alone or aloud as part of their enjoyment of the books.

America Calvary Baptist Primary School

This is the America Calvary Baptist Primary School in a village called Fawlalahun, seven miles from Bo city.  The Director visited the school for the first time. The children and teachers welcomed her with open hands. The children love and needed urgent attention with their school building.  Outside of the building looks better but the inside tells you whether the school is progressing or not. The school has no toilet, the hygiene and sanitation is  lacking in the school. Pupils use the bush path when they have the urge to use the toilet. The children and teachers have asked Save the Needy Sierra Leone to rehabilitate the structure as the raining season is fast approaching.

Pens for Kids, UK

In 2020 we received a donation from Pens for Kids, UK. This materials were pens, pencils, crayon, easers, markers, sharpeners and note pads. The school materials were distributed among the most deprived schools in the Freetown and Bo city. The children received the items in good faith though the Corona Pandemic was scary.

Classes one to class six were the  targeted pupils who received the school materials. Most children go to school with pens, pencils and books. The school building is not conducive for the children but they persevere to be educated.

New school toilet

The toilet was built for the Ahmadiyiaa Muslim Primary School, Western Rural, Freetown. SNSL noticed the girl child is constrained with a proper toilet facility.  Since Hygiene is one of our projects we gave them a flushing toilet.

Isatu Tucker, a class Five pupil of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Primary School was interviewed by the project Supervisor about the toilet facility provided in the school. In her view “she was impressed with the support. She pleaded with her colleagues to maintain the facility and respect donors’ money as such facility ensures privacy’’
